Writing together
In PARIDE a file opened by several people is written together, like a shared document. There is nothing to switch on: just open the same file.
What you see
- Your letters appear at once, the others' a moment later, already in the right place even if you wrote at the same moment.
- The others: everyone's cursor is a thin line with a label showing the name, and their selection is shaded. Every person has a colour, the same on every workstation.
- In the tree, a second dot next to the name marks files also opened by others; hover over it to read who.
- Who changed a line: hover over the line numbers. The tooltip says who changed it today and when: a name, “you”, or “another program”.
Undo and redo
Ctrl+Z undoes only your changes, even if others wrote after you, and leaves theirs where they are. Ctrl+Y (or Ctrl+Shift+Z) redoes them. Letters typed in a row are undone together, like a word.
Saving
You do not need to remember to save: the file is written on the server by itself after a few seconds without changes, and at once when the last person who opened it closes it. The asterisk in the tab title means “not yet on the server”; Ctrl+S writes it at once, and the asterisk disappears from all the tabs open on that file. The file keeps its encoding and its line endings.
When another program changes the file
If an open file is changed by Claude Code, git, a generator or another editor, PARIDE joins that change with what you are writing:
- the changed part stays highlighted for a few seconds, and the Output says “changed outside the editor”;
- if the program touched the same area as a change of yours not yet saved, the Output says so and the before and after comparison opens, to fix things by hand;
- View → Merged from disk lists the latest joins of every tab; a double click opens the differences view, side by side or inline;
- a file renamed from outside stays open with the new name; one removed stays open as “(deleted on disk)”, and Ctrl+S creates it again.
If the network drops
The tab becomes “(disconnected)” but keeps accepting changes for a couple of minutes. When the network comes back, PARIDE resumes by itself and sends what you wrote: you do not have to do anything.
If the network stays down longer, or if PARIDE notices that your text is no longer the same as the server's, the tab stops in read-only mode and your version goes into a recovery copy: nothing you wrote is lost. To take it back:
- reopen the file from the tree;
- choose File → Compare with recovery: your copy appears next to the current text;
- Use my copy brings your changes into the file, as if you had just written them; the others see them, and Ctrl+Z undoes them.
Who can write
Users with the developer or administrator role write. An observer opens the files and sees the others write, but cannot change them. Roles are given by the administrator (Users and roles).
