Features and status
PARIDE grows in phases, and a phase is closed only when its tests have passed. This page says what you can already do with version 0.3.17 and what comes next. Next to every group there is its status: available means tested and in use, in progress is the current phase, and the name of the phase for what will come.
Writing together in progress, F2
When several people open the same file, they write it together. Everyone sees their own letters at once; those of the others arrive a moment later, already in the right place. How to work like this is explained in the guide Writing together.
- You see the others. The others' cursors and selections appear in the tab, with a name and a colour per person, the same on every workstation. In the tree a dot marks the files also opened by others.
- Undo per person. Ctrl+Z undoes only your changes, even after those of the others; the letters of a word are undone together.
- Who changed this line. Hovering over the line numbers shows the name of whoever changed it today and the time, or “another program”.
- No Save button to remember. The file is written by itself after a few quiet seconds and when the last person closes it, in the encoding it had; Ctrl+S writes it at once.
- When the network drops. You keep writing for a couple of minutes; when the connection comes back PARIDE resumes by itself, without losing or doubling anything.
- When the server stops. On restart the open documents come back with the changes already made, and whoever was connected resumes from where they were.
- Never a different text in secret. PARIDE keeps checking that the text on your screen is the one on the server; if it were not, it sets your copy aside and lets you compare it.
Changes made by other programs in progress, F2
Programs work on the same code too: Claude Code, git, a generator, another editor.
- An open file changed by another program is joined with what people are writing, and the changed part stays highlighted for a few seconds.
- A
git checkoutor amakethat change dozens of files in a moment are joined once the changes are over, in one go. - If a program and a person touch the same area, the Output says so and the before-and-after comparison opens, to fix things by hand.
- An open file renamed or removed stays open, with the new name or as “deleted on disk”.
- The differences view, side by side or inline, with the changed characters highlighted within the lines; in the View menu, “Merged from disk” lists the latest joins of every tab.
Client and editor available
- Editor with code colours for C#, C, C++, CMake, Makefile, linker scripts, JSON, Markdown, shell, PowerShell and more; the guide line at column 90, visible spaces, brackets coloured in pairs. Even a twenty-thousand-line file scrolls smoothly.
- File tree that updates by itself: a file created from a terminal, by git or by a build appears in a
moment; files excluded by
.gitignoreare hidden or shown dimmed. - Quick open (Ctrl+P): type a few letters of the name and find the file, even in projects with tens of thousands of files.
- Find and replace in files (Ctrl+Shift+F), with regular expressions, case and whole word; whoever has the file open sees the replacement as a normal change.
- Projects panel with
.slnand.slnxsolutions and the files of every .NET project. - Markdown preview and PDF export, the same on Windows, Linux and macOS. Images and PDFs open in a tab.
- Upload and download files and folders by dragging them, with a check that they arrive intact. Nothing is really deleted: it goes to the workspace trash for 30 days.
- Look: dark and light theme, your own themes in a file of a few lines, icons on the commands, panels you move, split and detach into windows, and a layout that is remembered.
- Visual Studio shortcuts (Ctrl+Shift+B, F5, F12, Ctrl+K Ctrl+T...), with Cmd instead of Ctrl on the Mac, and changeable. Interface in Italian and English.
Server and users available
- The server is a .NET 10 program and runs on Linux, as a service with its own user and never as the system administrator, or on Windows, also on the same PC as the client. One command tells who is connected, from where and with which version.
- Workspaces, users and server settings are changed with a command or from the Server page of the client, and apply at once, without restarting.
- Three roles: observer (reads), developer (writes), administrator (everything).
- A new workstation introduces itself and waits: the administrator approves it by comparing a 6-digit code with the one it shows. No files to copy by hand.
- Encrypted connection, and the workstation key kept by the operating system, never written in plain text on disk.
What comes next
| Phase | Content | Status |
|---|---|---|
| F3 | Builds on the agents: .NET, CMake and Makefile, also on several systems at once; clickable errors; Claude Code reading the errors and starting the build | later |
| F4 | Full git: status in the tree, commits, three-way conflicts, code statistics | later |
| F5 | Code navigation: definition, references, callers and callees for C#, C and C++; C# rename and refactoring | later |
| F6 | House rules inside the tool: update before starting, version first, commit only after build and tests, documentation | later |
| F7 | Running and terminal, Claude Code in the terminal with its changes recognised, GitHub Copilot in the editor | later |
| 0.9 | The in-house version: server on Linux as a service or on Windows, client as a folder to unpack for Windows, Linux and macOS | later |
| F8 | Microcontrollers and tools: Eclipse CDT, STM32CubeIDE, Microchip Studio, MPLAB X and Visual Studio C++ projects opened as they are, with their toolchains and programmers; serial terminal, SSH, profiler, PDF printing | later |
| F9 | Version 1.0: measured performance, security, packages for every system, updates, manual | later |
After 1.0: debugging, code completion, a chat between people and several servers together.
AI assistants
Working with Claude is a central part of PARIDE, not an add-on. Already today Claude Code can work on the same code as people: its changes are joined with theirs like those of any other program. With phase F3 Claude Code will also see the build errors and be able to start the build; with F7 comes GitHub Copilot in the editor, one per person. The assistants can be switched off project by project, and they receive only what they need for their work, with the accounts of whoever uses them.
