PARIDE: the development environment where people write together

PARIDE is the development environment for C#, C and C++ that keeps the code in one place.

A server holds the only working copy of every project; several people write in it together, in real time, from Windows, Linux and macOS; builds go through machines and systems of every kind.

Designed and developed by Roberto Arato of aratoingegneria.it

When several people work on the same code there are usually many copies: one per workstation, plus the one on the build server, plus the one the AI assistant is changing. PARIDE starts from the opposite end. The code exists in one place only, the server: there are no copies to keep in step between workstations, and so no conflicts between them either. On your computer there is only the window to read and write, which stays light even on a laptop.

When two needs clash, PARIDE chooses in this order: no change is ever lost, neither a person's nor one made by a program that changes the files; then the responsiveness of the window; then everything else.

PARIDE with the dark theme, the file tree and the editor

What it already does

Simultaneous writing

Several people in the same file at the same time: everyone sees their own letters at once and, a moment later, those of the others.

Presence and authors

You see where the others' cursors and selections are, with a name and a colour per person; on the line numbers, who changed that line today and when.

Undo per person

Ctrl+Z undoes only your changes, even after those of the others, and leaves theirs where they are.

Programs write too

An open file changed by Claude Code, git or another editor is joined with what people are writing, without losing anything, and the changed part is shown.

When the network drops

If the connection breaks you keep writing; when it comes back PARIDE resumes by itself. And if the server stops, your changes are still there when it restarts.

Search the whole project

Find and replace in every file, regular expressions included; the results arrive while the search goes on.

The rest (side-by-side differences, quick open, Markdown preview, themes, users with roles) is on the Features and status page.

The parts of PARIDE

  • The server (paride-server) runs on Linux, as a service, or on Windows: it holds the workspaces, that is the project folders, and knows who may come in and with which role.
  • The client (PARIDE) is the window for Windows, Linux and macOS: editor, file tree, project panel, previews.
  • The agents (paride-agent) are the machines that will build for the server, on Linux, Windows and macOS: today they connect and get approved, builds arrive with phase F3.
  • The bridge for Claude Code (paride-mcp) also arrives with phase F3.

The connection between client and server is encrypted, and a new workstation gets in only after the administrator has approved it by comparing a 6-digit code.

Project status

PARIDE is in development. Today it is at version 0.3.17, in phase F2, simultaneous writing: the foundations (server, client, files, users) are there, and writing together already works in the editor. Next come distributed builds, git, code navigation, house rules, the terminal and the AI assistants; then 0.9 for in-house use and 1.0 with packages for everyone. The details, phase by phase, are in Features and status.

The name

PARIDE stands for Professional Arato Roberto IDE, and also PARallel IDE: a development environment where people work in parallel, on the same code.
